Peter Darrell has worked as a commercials director for nearly twenty years. Blessed with unquenchable enthusiasm, an unshakeable sense of humour and a passion for photography, design, music and the storytelling and emotional chicanery of the movies, he entered the film industry after graduating in Graphic Design, with a specialisation in filmmaking.
He is a full D&AD member and has work in "the book". He has won BTAA arrows and a large quantity of other international awards. He has created work for Audi, Coca Cola, Deutsche Bank, Dove, Magners, McDonalds and the MOD amongst very many others. His 'poppy' commercial for Glaxo SK Wellcome is on permanent display at the Toyko Museum of Modern Art and his ‘daffodil’ film for Apollo Optik has often been cited as the first ever viral ad - it also goes by another name, but that would be a spoiler. While he has a phenomenal grasp and experience of techniques relating to moving and still imagery, he is happiest telling great stories that connect emotionally with the viewer by using breathtaking visuals.
Outside of commercials he writes screenplays and is a voting member of the British Academy (BAFTA). In addition to having several scripts optioned, he has also worked as a script- and story editor for other people. He has serialised his GRAVITY FALLING© screenplay; a dark, contemporary, deconstructed superhero story; as a graphic novel and is currently developing a spinoff VR sport. The cinematic power of the graphic novel’s imagery has attracted several artwork commissions. He has also directed music videos, corporate and short films.
A self-confessed snow junkie, he can be found bouncing off mountains on pieces of wood, metal and plastic at unlikely times of the year. He is also the proud owner of a brace of guitars, a string bass (apparently polite people call it a double bass), a snowboard or two, and three delightful children.
